Introduction
Through critical installation design, this project seeks to reveal the harsh reality of human trafficking involving women through a form of human-computer interaction. In the installation, straws are painted with black, white, and red paint and wrapped with wire, symbolizing the chains that bind women. These straws are then suspended with fishing lines attached to a servo motor. The servo motor is controlled via Leap Motion gestures, enabling up-and-down movement that simulates the struggles and helplessness of those being controlled.
The core of this design lies in allowing the audience to “control” the captive figure within the cage through their hand gestures, prompting reflection on the experience. This interaction helps evoke a sense of the captive’s despair and helplessness, embedding a critical examination of humanity and social responsibility. The installation aims to draw attention to the plight of vulnerable women in human trafficking and their dire living conditions.
Through this installation, I aim to explore how technology and art can be utilized to address social issues. Additionally, the project seeks to inspire deeper reflection on protecting women’s rights and promoting social justice. By integrating technology and artistry, this work aspires to offer new perspectives and possibilities for driving societal change.
