CLASSIC OF
MOUNTAINS AND SEAS , 2019
Introduction
Designed an AR bio-garment that integrates biological morphological elements, utilizing 3D clothing design based on the human body.
This project explores the fusion of biological characteristics with fashion design and investigates the application of biological forms in the fashion industry.
Amid the rapid development of contemporary digital media, print media faces significant disadvantages and challenges, with its influence and usage continuing to decline. However, due to its unique material qualities—such as tactile sensations, scent, and physical interactivity—print media still offers an irreplaceable sensory experience and cultural value that digital media cannot fully replicate.
This project seeks to combine the technological advantages of digital media with the unique attributes of print media, exploring the innovative application of augmented reality (AR) technology in this context. By leveraging the interactivity and immersiveness of AR, the project aims to address the limitations of print media in areas such as information dissemination, dynamic content representation, and real-time interaction, thereby expanding its applications in fields like education, art, and commerce. Ultimately, the project aspires to explore the multifaceted possibilities of integrating technology with traditional media.
I selected seven unique animals from The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shan Hai Jing) and recreated their forms artistically based on textual descriptions.
In the creative process, I adopted the traditional Chinese handscroll format and utilized the scattered perspective composition method from Chinese landscape painting. The overall composition presents a topographic map of Shan Hai Jing, primarily consisting of mountains, water, and plants. I completed these three elements separately and then arranged and combined them based on the animals’ habitats and the terrain, ultimately creating a cohesive and complete visual piece.
Additionally, I incorporated augmented reality (AR) technology to enhance the interactive experience of traditional print media. By scanning the raised sections of the artwork, users can view animations of the animals, extending the content from the static paper to a dynamic digital space. This approach not only enriches the presentation of the work but also provides viewers with a more immersive and engaging experience.
